ILLUMINATED AND THEN CALLED (4.12 to 23 Mt)
Today's liturgy, through the symbol of light, highlights the new situation that has come to be created among people with the coming The image of the light of Jesus expresses in a convincing way the new course of history: "The people who lived in darkness have seen a great light for those who lived in the region and shadow of death light has arisen." With the coming of Jesus is as if a great light had turned on all the face of the earth and especially in the hearts of men, but need to ask specifically what constitutes this light. Surely this is the word of Jesus: is his word that illuminates and brings light into the world and in the hearts of men, in fact, in the Gospel we read: "From that time Jesus began to preach and say ..." And the content of this word is the call to conversion: "Repent , for the kingdom of heaven is near. " Nothing is more revealing of the Word of Jesus to understand what is good and fight evil. But the Word of Jesus, in order to be effective, must be upheld and someone has to proclaim it. This then is the reason why Jesus, the beginning of his public ministry, the first call after call to conversion and those who will become the witnesses of his words: "Come behind me, I will make you fishers of men. " Notice how Jesus did not say, "I will make you rich," or "will ensure success and fame" and even "save you from disease." Jesus simply ensures that there will be other people to accept his word and to follow the path of conversion. Today, throughout the diocese of Novara, we celebrate the "Day of the Seminar" to remind each and every duty to provide practical support for this important structure of our local Church and to pray that are never less priestly vocations to serve the community on our territory. The Lord has called throughout history, call today and will continue to call people to be with Him and proclaim the Gospel. We are confident that there are still young people are able to welcome His call to live and bear witness with readiness, depth and courage.
